Short-Term Running Goals:

Run on trails as much as I can.

Not get injured and stay consistent with my training.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Complete a 50 and 100 mile ultra.

Qualify for Boston... missed it by 8 seconds previously

Run one of those rediculously aided Utah half-marathons helter skelter down a canyon and get a PR.

Personal:

Married with three boys. Ran the Odgen Marathon in honor of my mother, a marathoner, who passed away from cancer and it just had continued from there. Grew up in a running family and have fallen in love with running, especially on trails.

Woke up early this morning for a dark and cold run from the house. Same route down the canal trail then south on the road. Wanted to do some strides mixed in with the run. I tried to do two strides every mile except the first and last.

Run was ok, my injured ab/groin really did not like the sprints.  I am feeling it now this afternoon.  I averaged just under 8min per mile.  My garmin is not holding a charge anymore and shuts down between miles 6-8 depending on what I am doing.  I was thinking it just wasn't fully charged, but I am positive it was this morning and it still died.  Not good...

What kind of a Garmin are you using? I have a 405CX and I had a similar problem after I'd had it for a few months, like I would charge it all night long, it would say it was 100% charged, and then it would die in the first mile of the run. If that's your problem, I did a manual firmware update, reset my watch to factory settings, and a couple of other things that I can't remember. It took me a while, but I figured it out through Garmin support. Don't toss your watch just yet. Good luck.

I believe it is a Garmin 305, I have been just now looking around on the internet for some suggestions to salvage it. Keeping my fingers crossed as I don't want to have to buy another one and I am addicted to the one I have. Have you heard anymore on the group run this weekend, I got the go ahead from my wife?

I'm definitely planning on Saturday, say 7:00? I have the rule of 3, meaning we've got to have 3 for a group run. I'll ask around and see if anyone else would like to come. Our workouts/pace seem to be pretty similar, so believe me, if I can make it to the top, you can too.

Let's see on your watch. On the Garmin support site it says:

What troubleshooting can I do when my Forerunner or Edge will not power on or take a charge?

The Forerunner or Edge from time to time may not power on or take a charge. A soft reset can be performed to unfreeze it. No user information will be lost by doing this reset. The reset is most effective when the device is connected to the computer.

The AutoLocate instructions listed below pertain to the following fitness devices:

Forerunner 910XT, 310XT, 305, 205, 301, 201 or 101

Edge 305 and 205

To reset Forerunner or Edge:

Connect device to computer

Press and hold Mode and Lap/Rest for 10 seconds

Release both buttons

Power device on once device starts to charge

Once the device is powered on, update the device’s operating system using myDashboard. Once the device is on and updated, do not remove from charger until the display shows fully charged.

Sounds good, I'll ask around too and see if anyone else wants to run. Hopefully there will be a few there. The more the merrier.
